Members and Ma’am take to the streets in Kingston

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday when we took the CWU's Keep the Post Public to the streets of Kingston in Surrey!

As you can see in the video above, over a thousand people, including hundreds of postal workers, their families and supporters, marched from the Fairfield Recreation ground and through the town centre to make their voices heard. There was even a very special appearance from "Her Majesty the Queen" who came to support the postal workers and impart her wisdom on the crowd.

Over the course of the event, we all made sure our voices were heard by Ed Davey, Minister for Postal Affairs, and local MP for Kingston

CWU general secretary Billy Hayes got the proceedings going declaring: "We're waking up Ed Davey and we're waking up Kingston." Dave Ward, Billy’s deputy, followed by reminding spectators how privatisation is not in the "interests of this country, the workforce or business".

Billy and Dave were joined by NUT Teachers Union General Secretary Christine Blower, local Labour parliamentary candidate Max Freedman, as well as speakers from the Labour Party's Young Labour organisation, who all pledged their support to the campaign.

Thank you again for your support, whether you made it down to Surrey or not. We cannot put a stop to this dangerous and damaging Bill without you.

And if you want to join the movement to keep the post public, please come and make your voice heard at our next event - a march through Birmingham on the 29th January.
