The Ghost Office
A recent Sunday Mirror investigation revealed that three Post Offices a week are facing closure.
Shockingly, they found that nearly 200 of the branches that shut in the past year were not on the official closure lists, but rather Royal Mail has ambiguously listed them as "long term temporary closures".
CWU's Billy Hayes responded saying "Playing around with terms like 'long-term closure' is an insult to communities who are losing their post offices. Many closures don't register until it's too late because they are misleadingly classed as temporary."
The coalition are failing to keep their promises on safeguarding the network and now they are using distorting terminology to cover up the brutal truth.
The fact is that we are losing our Post Offices and losing them quickly. With post Office down from 18,390 in 2001 to just 11,900 today local communities are hurting and peoples livelihoods are in jeopardy.
Are these supposed "long term temporary" closures actually permanent? And if so, what will take their place?
The only way we will get answers to these questions is by making our voices heard.
