Britain keeps the post public

The CWU has welcomed this afternoon’s statement by Lord Mandelson to the House of Lords confirming that the Postal Services Bill will not be heard by Parliament this session and that the bidding process will not be concluded.
CWU General Secretary Billy Hayes said: “The government has not only looked at market forces but has listened to the British public. Privatisation was a deeply unpopular suggestion from day one. We now look forward to resolving issues which remain around pensions, regulation and modernisation.
“The CWU is as committed to anyone to improving industrial relations in Royal Mail. Now that this uncertainty has been lifted there is a great opportunity to step up a gear in modernising Royal Mail in the public sector.”

The campaign would also like to thank everyone who helped Keep the Post Public. Your pressure was critical to making sure that MPs stood firm and the government thought again. Now we must begin the work of modernising the Royal Mail so that it has a successful future in public ownership.
We have also set up a page where supporters can send a message of thanks to the MPs who backed our campaign - sign up here:
